Martin Burdette Craigo
Martin Burdette “Jimmy” Craigo, 84, of Poca went home to be with the Lord Feb. 6, 2006, at home.
He was born Sept. 27, 1921, and was a son of the late Rev. Simon A. and Vonnie Blake Craigo.
After teaching for 29 years, he retired from the Virginia Board of Education. Although retired, he continued to work hard as a cabinetmaker for American Woodmark. Loving God, family and his country, he faithfully served them all proudly. He attended Bancroft Church of God Mission. He served as a boatswain's mate first class in the U.S. Navy from 1942 to 1949 and was presented with several commendations and honors: the Pacific Campaign, European-African, Middle Eastern and American.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of eight years, Marcella Sanson Craigo; three children, Anthony B. Craigo of Frisco, N.C., Teresa C. Humphreys of Glen Rose, Texas, and M. Thomas Craigo and wife, Lucy Adams, of Manassas, Va.; four loving stepdaughters, Brenda J. Wolfe of Cross Lanes and Mary F. Hacker, Patricia A. Gibson and Sandra M. Reedy and husband, Jerry, all of Poca; sister, Laura Nelson of Knoxville, Tenn.; 12 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 10, at Bancroft Church of God Mission with Pastor Earl Cochran, the Rev. Ralph Workman and Frank Allen Jr. officiating. Entombment will follow in Haven of Rest Memorial Gardens, Red House, with military honors by Bennie Padilla VFW Post 4768, Alum Creek.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Bancroft Church of God Mission.
