Lottie Alice Craigo Semon
FAYETTEVILLE – Lottie Alice Craigo Semon, 96, a lifelong resident of Fayetteville, died Aug. 7, 2003, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Emily and Denver Corley of Hillsborough, N.C., following a long illness.
Born Sept 19, 1906, she was the last of 10 children of the late Icem Levi and Louisa Ann Lanham Craigo. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Hubert G. Semon, in 1966; three brothers, Warren, Otto and Romie Craigo; and four sisters, Gertrude Fauber, Louvina Nickoson, Elizabeth Shorter and Wilma Holliday.
Mrs. Semon was a member of Fayetteville Baptist Church for over 60 years. She had lived at 107 Lindburg Ave., Fayetteville, for the last 50 years. She was very active in her church and community, serving as a counselor at the American Baptist Camp, Cowen, for many years and a member of the Bowling League at Fountain Terrace. She served as Sunday school superintendent, director of Bible school and children's programs, and the Board of Christian Education at Fayetteville Baptist Church. She helped create the Senior Citizen's Group in the Fayetteville area.
In addition to the Corleys, she is survived by a daughter, Dorothy Kincaid Honaker of Fayetteville; four grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and a multitude of friends including Lee Dix, a longtime friend and caregiver.
Service will be 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 10, at Fayetteville Baptist Church with the Rev. David Sneed, the Rev. Ron George Jr. and the Rev. Bill Withers officiating.
Lottie's grandchildren will ring the “Old Church Bell” at the start of the service in memory of Lottie, who always loved to ring this bell at every church service.
Burial will follow in Huse Memorial Park, Fayetteville.
Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Dodd-Payne-Hess Funeral Home, Fayetteville.
