Crago and Craigo Families from Putnam County, W.Va.

 

Harold Ray Craigo  

Harold Ray Craigo, 92, passed away on January 6, 2019, at Hubbard Hospice House West after a short illness.

He was a devout Christian and a member of Dunbar Mountain Mission Church.

Harold married Jacqueline Higginbotham on January 19, 1949, and they had 63 years of a loving and happy marriage before she passed away on November 28, 2012.

He was a graduate of Dunbar High and attended Morris Harvey College. He retired from Union Carbide with 38-plus years as a supervisor in the Inspection Department, later he worked as a Contract Inspector for General Electric and Textron shipping. Harold was a proud member of the Dunbar City Council until his death.

Harold was in the Army during WWII, and served on the islands of Saipan and Guam. He was a cryptograph operator and a messenger center chief of U.S. Army headquarters in Guam.

He was a 60-plus year member of the Dunbar Masonic Lodge 159 and 60-plus year member of the Scottish Rite in Charleston. He was president of the West Virginia Rehabilitation Volunteers and served on the Board of Directors at West Virginia Rehabilitations Hospital for many years.

In addition to his wife Jacqueline, he was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Maude Craigo; son, Terry Lee Craigo; daughter, Cynthia Craigo Brown; sister, Clara Mclaughlin; brothers, Gene and Shelly Craigo.

Harold is survived by his son-in-law, John Brown, and daughter-in-law, Gina Brown, both of South Charleston; sister-in-law, Betty Bradley of Illinois.

A celebration of his life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 12, at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar, with Rev. Billy Lucas officiating. Burial will follow in Grandview Memorial Park, Dunbar. Masonic rites will be provided by Dunbar Masonic Lodge #159 and Military honors by the American Legion Post of Winfield.

A visitation will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. on Friday, January 11, at Dunbar Mountain Mission Church.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hubbard Hospice House West, 4605 MacCorkle Avenue SW, South Charleston, WV 25309.

Arrangements are in the care of Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.
