ELKHART -- Betty L. O'Brien, 72, died Thursday (Feb. 11, 2010) at Hospice House of Elkhart County.

She was born March 12, 1937, in Ward, W.Va., to George and Mabel (Garten) Craigo. On July 3, 1986, she married Daniel R. O'Brien in Elkhart.

He survives along with one daughter, Betty Kipker of Elkhart; one brother, Larry (Lana) Craigo of Pineville, La.; two sisters, Bobbie Cremeans and Marguerite Keenan, both of Cedar Grove, W.Va.; her stepchildren, Daniel O'Brien Jr. of Texas, Steve O'Brien, Chris O'Brien of Arizona, Andrew O'Brien of Elkhart, Tamara O'Brien of Michigan and Cynthia Kauffman of Arizona; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one son, Jeffery Mack, and one sister, Elizabeth Bender.

Mrs. O'Brien was employed by Taylor Products, Elkhart, until her retirement in 1986. She enjoyed reading, crocheting, gardening, working crossword puzzles and playing the piano. She was fond of watching birds in her backyard. She was a member of Bible Way Apostolic Church, Nappanee.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. until the noon funeral service Sunday at Chapel Hill Funeral Home, Osceola. Pastor J.L. Wyant will officiate. Interment will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
